Why Mornings Are a Second Chance.
Mornings to me are like a renewal process. You get a second chance to do good. Whether your day before was successful or not, you get to wake up with a clear mind and begin again. There is a certain feeling you get when you wake up, get ready and take your first step outside. The feeling for me is exhilarating and it gives me that clean slate, ready to begin again feeling. Just like if you were about to start writing a new book, the first page is completely blank and your day is ready to start. Mornings can determine your destiny if you choose to take full advantage of them. Forget about yesterday, you have a new day to make it better than you ever have. Since life is so short, treat your mornings like the beginning of a new chapter and always strive to do better. Here is a list of 5 things you can do to start off your day:
1) Go for a run
2) Eat breakfast
3) Plan out your day
4) Get one minor task or errand done
5) Make a list of things you are grateful for

Why Meditate? Now I know you are already thinking this post is going to be about turning into Buddha and moving to Tibet to become a monk. Wrong. Meditation is something that can benefit everyone’s life and help de-stress you without spending any money. Does that not sound great? Becoming a calmer and more relaxed person without spending a cent! The benefits of meditation are endless and the longer you do it the better you get. You will have more energy, be at a zen state of mind and will learn to control your thoughts. Once you can control your thoughts better you will have more control over your own life. Steps to meditation:
1) Find an area, maybe in your room or somewhere quiet that you can sit on the ground, legs crossed and be comfortable. I like to sit on a pillow so it feels more comfortable.
2) Turn off the lights and connect your thumb and index finger together over top of your knees. You can also put your hands in prayer over your heart, whatever works best for you.
3) Shut your eyes and clear your mind of everything. Try your best not to think of anything or move during your meditation.
4) Start out by doing 10 minutes of meditation a day, once you get good up it to 20 minutes and then eventually to 30 minutes. I’m still at 10 minutes a day and it still seems like a long time. Enjoy your meditation since it is time all to yourself for a short period of time in a day.

As I sat dipping my chocolate chip cookies into my milk I realized how perfect that moment was. It is exactly what gives our entire lives purpose and meaning. It is about the little things and the little things count more than you will ever know. Take a minute to think of something small like that, which means so much to you. Imagine if your favorite things were taken away from you, all you would want is another chance to be able to live that again. So in the midst of your chaotic life and big dreams, remember that the chocolate chip cookies in milk mean the most and that you must appreciate it while you still can. For me they symbolize my love for food, the simple things in life and how lucky I am to be able to sit and eat them in the first place. Namaste – Carly Jensen

Validation, approval, and acceptance, three words that every human hopes to receive. Our whole lives we want to be validated for everything we do. We want others to let us know that what we are doing is the right thing. We hope for the day everyone claps with approval for our actions. Is this realistic? Is validation even worth it? I took a lot of thought to this topic when I realized how much of my life was about seeking validation. In absolutely everything I did, I was looking for that golden star to be handed to me.
I heard a story about Judd Apatow the producer and director of many of the best comedy films out there today. Working with some of the greatest in the world like Seth Rogan, Judd Apatow was at the top of his game. After years of struggle, rejection and heartbreak Apatow established himself as one of the best producers in this day and age. One day Apatow received a letter in the mail. This was a letter he had never received before. It was a letter from Steven Spielberg. For a producer, it was the ultimate dream letter. Can you think of anything better in your life than receiving a letter from Steven Spielberg telling you that he thought your work was fantastic? Judd Apatow sat there reading this letter of praise and approval from the greatest producer in the world and thought “Wow, I have officially made it. All my hard work has paid off.” After reading the letter he felt great, for a whole 5 minutes. Then he once again had to go back to work, back to his day to day and the letter would be put behind him.
Judd Apatow received the most validation you can receive for someone in his line of work. Was that enough? Does he feel full and satisfied about everything in his life? This story is what made me believe that there is no such thing as “enough validation.” Validation must come from inside, if you are happy with yourself and what you are doing then nothing else matters. You cannot look to external sources for your validation because there will never ever be enough of it. At the end of the day, the only person you need to answer to is yourself. Stop searching for more; everything you want is already there. Look inward and listen to yourself for that validation. I hope this story helps you the way it did for me. Namaste – Carly Jensen
