I remember the day I decided to start “Thoughts With Carly.” It was like everything hit me at once. It was one of those moments when I knew it was what I was suppose to do. It has been almost 2 years since I started my blog and it has definitely grown a lot since then.
I am writing this post because the further along you get into blogging it becomes harder to remember why you started in the first place. You start to look at all the top bloggers out there and get a bit insecure. You see everything from fashion to beauty and you realise how many bloggers there really are.
When I sometimes feel like my blog is not where I want it to be yet I remember what my purpose was in the first place. I wanted to share my thoughts and wisdom with people. I wanted to spread positivity and inspiration to anyone who needed to hear it. Along the way, I have written about many different lifestyle topics but I always lean towards self improvement posts. The best thing about blogging is that you don’t have to follow a certain set of rules. If you want to blog about food one day then fashion the next you are totally allowed to do so. Blogging is all about what you enjoy and what you feel.
When I look back through my posts I can tell there were times where I went off course and was trying to be someone I wasn’t. It doesn’t matter how many times I try, I will never be that fashion blogger who takes the perfect pictures with the best clothes on. But why would I? That isn’t me and that isn’t why I started Thoughts With Carly. For all the bloggers that come to a point where they wonder why they are doing it, just remember why you started. What was your purpose of writing? Are you trying to inspire people through food and self improvement? Maybe you are trying to show people how they should care for their bodies. Whatever it might be try not to forget your purpose. Follow your own blogging path and you will find your own sense of success.

I’m just thankful that you’re *not* a fashion blogger, reblogging the same vacuous photos that the rest have. You write wonderfully.
Well good I am glad! That is very sweet of you to say and I appreciate it. Thank you for reading
Xx Carly
Love this Carly, and it is very true hard to not get caught up in what others are doing! Missing your positive and happy laugh! xo
Hey Tiff,
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes I find myself way too often trying to compare myself to other blogs. Miss ya too – xo Carly
Hi Carly, beautifully written. I understand the sentiment. Started my blog as a site where readers could go to see the pictures behind the stories in my books…not everyone knows where Gertrude street is! Now it’s become something completely different, all consuming and I find it hard not to post regularly. Sometimes I have to remind myself of the blogs original intention and stop doing posts about food. Maybe a story about ‘Naked for Satan’ is due! Merry Christmas and keep writing.
Hey, thank you so much for reading. I totally understand how you feel but food is tough not to write about. I have trouble just trying not to eat so much lol. You definitely need to do a Naked for Satan post.
Merry Christmas xo – Carly
Or turning the simplest meal into a photo shoot…Drinks on the roof deck!
I turn most of my meals into a photo shoot haha! Drinks sounds wonderful enjoy xx
I feel like this on almost a daily basis. But blogging is such a fun outlet that I’m sure I won’t leave it for awhile. 🙂
Hey, glad you enjoyed the post! Keep writing xx – Carly
Great post! 🙂 I feel like this too at times, but then I remember that I am not doing this for anyone, but myself. It is what I love to do.
I am glad you enjoyed it. It is so true, you must do it for yourself then you will never be dissapointed. – Carly xo
Thanks for sharing that- I’m a new blogger and its just what I needed to hear!
It is so true! Do it for you and you will be happy with the outcome. – Carly xx
Very encouraging. What works for one may not work for another. I’ll remember that as I continue to blog. Thanks!
Hey, glad you enjoyed the post. Thank you for reading – Carly xx
Hi Carly,
This is a great post. I just started my blog, and your post has given me more inspiration to just be myself and try not to get caught up with what other blogs look like.
It is so true. You must stick to what you want your blog to be about and follow your heart with it. You will soon see that you can have your own success rather than trying to be like everyone else. Carly xx
