I have been on a blogging hiatus due to major writers block and not really wanting to write. I made it to a point though where I am okay with that. I used to beat myself up if I didn’t have anything to write or if I didn’t post something at least once a week.
I realised blogging should never be a chore. I started blogging for my love of writing and sharing my thoughts with others and that is why I will continue to blog. I realised there is no “right” way to do something. If I want to post a piece once a month that is fine. Blogging should be about you and your readers and that is it. It shouldn’t be restricted to timelines and certain days you need to post. Blogging should be enjoyable and each post should mean something. There isn’t a need to post something just to get a post up. I found myself writing things just to make sure I got something up and that wasn’t me. The writing wouldn’t be honest and truthful which is the opposite of what I want.
When it comes to blogging there is no right way to do it. As long as you are writing what you want and it comes from the heart that is all that matters.

For those who struggle with meditation this will help you get started. Meditation is the act of observing your own thoughts and not being critical about what you’re thinking. The best way to describe meditation is to pretend your thoughts are clouds in the sky and you are laying in a field watching the clouds go by. You aren’t there to follow the clouds you are just there to observe them as they past.
You are not there to follow one constant thought you are only there to observe. The good thing about guided meditation is that it talks your through the whole entire process. It helps you focus on the present and calm your mind with a bit more help. A guided mediation talks you through everything which helps you focus on the present more and not let your mind focus so intensely on one thought.
To find good guided meditations just check them out on youtube and see what one works best for you. I also recommend downloading an app that will help as well. Once or twice a day anywhere from 5- 20 minutes is enough for you to relax and let your mind settle down. Some of my favourite guided meditation apps are Sleep Easily, Smiling Mind, Take a Break and Headspace.

Who are you? What is your purpose? Why do you continue to go to that job you hate? I will be harsh here and say its a cop out. You would rather be average and not pursue your passion. Why? Whether you believe in reincarnation or heaven, one thing we all know is that nobody is sure what comes next. Why waste what you have? Who cares if you fail? You have nothing to prove to anyone so why not make a splash. Be fearless! Nobody is judging you so go on and be who your meant to. What would it take you to go in the direction of your dreams? Would you need someone to tell you it was your last day on earth? At the end of the day you have to make the change yourself. Why not make that change today?
Look in the mirror ask yourself “Who am I?” Go be that.

If I can teach you anything about this life, it would be to not take yourself so seriously. People tend to take themselves way to seriously which leads to a lot of unhappiness and a pretty boring life. You were put on this earth to laugh, to smile and especially at yourself. Why take every moment of each day so seriously? Live each moment having fun and enjoying yourself, you ain’t got anything to prove to anyone so have some fun.
I don’t have all the answers but I know that by not taking yourself too seriously you tend to lead a happier life. I am constantly making silly little mistakes on a daily basis, you probably could never tell though. My secret is that I laugh at them when I do. I turn the slip ups in life into positives and keep moving forward. I have said enough things that are very questionable but I just laugh them off and keep on going. You have to let go of the need to be perfect.

Nestled away at the end of Clarendon Street is the newest Mexican hombre to join the Melbourne family. El Habanero is a fun modern and most importantly authentic Mexican joint that opened up about 4 months ago. Luckily for me I live right by it and get to experience their delicious tacos whenever I feel like it.
My two favourite things we ordered was the simple yet delicious chicken tacos. As well the suprisingly mouth watering deliciousness of the fish taco. Now normally I wouldn’t be open to eating fish but these tacos had some sort of chipotle cream drizzled over the top. Inside the taco you were presented with a cool cucumber salad, red cabbage, marinated meat all on top of a true corn tortilla.
To drink we had lime margaritas that had enough tequila in them to make me go loco. The best part about the meal was it was reasonably priced which obviously left us feeling content and not broke. For those looking for a new restaurant to try, why not check out El Habanero. Believe me, the hot sauce is hot so take at your own risk.

Minimalism? Now what the hell does that mean? As I sat during my shift at work I did my usual scan of every interesting website I could get my eyes on. I came across an interesting topic I had not really heard much about. For a good 5 hours I read as many blogs about minimalism as I could and I found that it can be something everyone can apply to their lives. Now before I go ahead, I know some of you may be thinking that this whole concept seems crazy and too difficult to apply. You have probably read that you must only own 100 items, walk everywhere, become a vegan hippie and never do anything that involves money. I will be the first to say that yes that may be an extreme way of looking at minimalism but just like anything in life there are NO RULES on how to do something! Now that we have that out of the way we can start to adjust to the feeling of living with less.
Okay time for the official definition from my favourite minimalist blog the minimalists.com. They sum it up into one simple sentence “Minimalism is a tool used to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.” The more I thought about the idea that becoming minimalist seems brilliant, I remembered a story I learned in high school about a very rich king who had every material possesion and he loved each one like they were his own children. He wasn’t a very nice man and all he cared about was being rich and owning all these marvelous possessions. As he lay on his death bed there was no one there to say goodbye to him and once he died there was a very valueble lesson to be learned. That lesson was that it doesn’t matter how many possessions you have, once you die they don’t come to the grave with you. When your laying in the cemetery there is no competition for who has the most possessions.
With this all being said does that not excite you that you can finally put that wallet away, relax and be happy! You are no longer bound by the stress spending brings and you no longer have to be in competition with the people you know about who has more stuff. You can walk outside and smell the roses again and smile at that neighbour you were always in competition with and think to yourself “well I finally have it all! I’m happy.” You can walk down the streets while watching people carry their excess shopping bags and feel absolutely free. So if you are ready to free yourself from the obsession that material items bring then follow my easy tips to simplifying your life.
1) Say NO to constant shopping – Okay, I will admit it this will be definitely hard for me especially since having new clothes and looking good is something I value but I am going to make a goal that unless it is something I desperately need then there is no reason to buy it.
2) Declutter your home and work space – This one is huge, most people probably don’t realise how much added stress is put upon them as well as the amount of time wasted when things aren’t clean. Start by going through each room of your house and start throwing away things that you no longer use or no longer need. As well go through that large clothing closet of yours and throw out all those silly items that you don’t even wear. Trust me you don’t need 500 t-shirts, you only wear 4 anyways.
3) Choose 1 day a week to wipe your schedule clean – I think having a schedule for your life is important to some extent because you need to get things done on day to day basis but that being said minimalism is all about finding more time for important things in life and the things that matter. Start small by wiping your schedule once a week and try and do nothing at all. You will have more time to enjoy yourself and spend time with the people that really matter. By doing this you will get to know yourself better and who better to get to know than the one person you spend your whole life with.

Freedom. What is it? Who has it? Who wants it? Freedom is happiness, freedom is life, and freedom is everything. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you came from, who you are with, everyone and everything wants to be free. Freedom of your own mind, freedom from society, freedom of choice. It is our whole goal as human beings to be free. Whether you are working hard all year to go on vacation, whether you are waiting till 5 pm so you can go home from work, everything comes back to freedom. The music you listen to that makes you feel liberated is what we hold onto. Every adult wishes they could close their eyes and be dancing in an open field like no one is watching. For all of you that do not believe you want freedom in some way, let me tell you here that you do. Freedom is happiness. Freedom is not being alone; it is having people around you that make you feel free. It could be your loved ones, your friends, your job, it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you feel some type of freedom.
Doing what you want, being who you are, these are all things that give you that sense of freedom. Wherever you are, whoever you are with remember that freedom is yours and always will be. You are never locked away, you always have a say. Speak up, be yourself, you are always allowed to dance. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Freedom is a state of mind just as happiness is.

We are told our entire lives to treat others with respect. I can still picture my grade 4 teacher saying “treat others the way you want to be treated.” We go on to believe that as long as we are treating others with dignity and respect then we are doing the right thing. I then realized one of the most important things people forget is that you have to be kind to yourself. If you are not kind to yourself how is the world going to love you back? I hope that everyone starts to treat themselves with love and never forget that you are always deserving of it.

Why Mornings Are a Second Chance.
Mornings to me are like a renewal process. You get a second chance to do good. Whether your day before was successful or not, you get to wake up with a clear mind and begin again. There is a certain feeling you get when you wake up, get ready and take your first step outside. The feeling for me is exhilarating and it gives me that clean slate, ready to begin again feeling. Just like if you were about to start writing a new book, the first page is completely blank and your day is ready to start. Mornings can determine your destiny if you choose to take full advantage of them. Forget about yesterday, you have a new day to make it better than you ever have. Since life is so short, treat your mornings like the beginning of a new chapter and always strive to do better. Here is a list of 5 things you can do to start off your day:
1) Go for a run
2) Eat breakfast
3) Plan out your day
4) Get one minor task or errand done
5) Make a list of things you are grateful for

As I sat dipping my chocolate chip cookies into my milk I realized how perfect that moment was. It is exactly what gives our entire lives purpose and meaning. It is about the little things and the little things count more than you will ever know. Take a minute to think of something small like that, which means so much to you. Imagine if your favorite things were taken away from you, all you would want is another chance to be able to live that again. So in the midst of your chaotic life and big dreams, remember that the chocolate chip cookies in milk mean the most and that you must appreciate it while you still can.
