For those who struggle with meditation this will help you get started. Meditation is the act of observing your own thoughts and not being critical about what you’re thinking. The best way to describe meditation is to pretend your thoughts are clouds in the sky and you are laying in a field watching the clouds go by. You aren’t there to follow the clouds you are just there to observe them as they past.

You are not there to follow one constant thought you are only there to observe. The good thing about guided meditation is that it talks your through the whole entire process. It helps you focus on the present and calm your mind with a bit more help. A guided mediation talks you through everything which helps you focus on the present more and not let your mind focus so intensely on one thought.

To find good guided meditations just check them out on youtube and see what one works best for you. I also recommend downloading an app that will help as well. Once or twice a day anywhere from 5- 20 minutes is enough for you to relax and let your mind settle down. Some of my favourite guided meditation apps are Sleep Easily, Smiling Mind, Take a Break and Headspace.

Learn to laugh at yourself

If I can teach you anything about this life, it would be to not take yourself so seriously. People tend to take themselves way to seriously which leads to a lot of unhappiness and a pretty boring life. You were put on this earth to laugh, to smile and especially at yourself. Why take every moment of each day so seriously? Live each moment having fun and enjoying yourself, you ain’t got anything to prove to anyone so have some fun.

I don’t have all the answers but I know that by not taking yourself too seriously you tend to lead a happier life. I am constantly making silly little mistakes on a daily basis, you probably could never tell though. My secret is that I laugh at them when I do. I turn the slip ups in life into positives and keep moving forward. I have said enough things that are very questionable but I just laugh them off and keep on going. You have to let go of the need to be perfect.

Sleep Your Way to Success?

Do you ever feel like there are not enough hours in a day? I struggled with this for a long time until I realised that in order to get everything you want done, sometimes you have to stick it out and stay up late. You may have heard the saying “successful people don’t sleep,” well they definitely do but probably not as much as you and I. Did you know that the average person can live a healthy life off just 6-7 hours of sleep a night! Successful individuals understand the meaning of hard work and understand that if you work a full time job and have a lot of other objectives you want to achieve, then waking up at 5 am is a must. I am writing this a 12am and that is late for me.  And while I find it hard to stay up late sometimes, especially when the easy way out is to jump in my cozy bed and get some rest, I know it’s what i have to do to achieve my goals.

I believe it is important if you are working towards other goals in life to make sure you hustle your ass off either late at night or early in the morning. Believe me I know how important sleep is but I also know how important fulfilling your dreams are. Blogging for instance is something I can only get done at night because I have my full time life going on around that. I have two choices, either stay up late and focus on my two blogs I’m currently running or go to bed and get nothing done.

I am encouraging you in this post to find what works for you, be it either late at nights or early mornings to work on your passions. I know sleep is nice, but imagine how empowering it will feel after you reach your goal. On the other hand, reflect on what it feels like waking up and knowing that you haven’t achieved everything you could. Hustle, hustle, hustle so that one day you can sleep easily.

Freedom. What is it? Who has it? Who wants it? Freedom is happiness, freedom is life, and freedom is everything. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you came from, who you are with, everyone and everything wants to be free. Freedom of your own mind, freedom from society, freedom of choice. It is our whole goal as human beings to be free. Whether you are working hard all year to go on vacation, whether you are waiting till 5 pm so you can go home from work, everything comes back to freedom. The music you listen to that makes you feel liberated is what we hold onto. Every adult wishes they could close their eyes and be dancing in an open field like no one is watching. For all of you that do not believe you want freedom in some way, let me tell you here that you do. Freedom is happiness. Freedom is not being alone; it is having people around you that make you feel free. It could be your loved ones, your friends, your job, it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you feel some type of freedom.

Doing what you want, being who you are, these are all things that give you that sense of freedom. Wherever you are, whoever you are with remember that freedom is yours and always will be. You are never locked away, you always have a say. Speak up, be yourself, you are always allowed to dance. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Freedom is a state of mind just as happiness is.

Get Excited!

If you didn’t know it by now, you must be prepared because the best is yet to come. Fasten your seat belt and get ready for the ride of a lifetime. Your life, yes I mean you is going to get better. No not just better, it is going to get great. You haven’t even lived the best days of your life yet so just know that it is going to get even more exciting. Let go of all fears, open your heart up to new experiences and new times and be ready for all the possibilities this world has to offer. Smile, wherever you are right now, smile. Each day that passes is going to be wonderful if you believe it will be. With an open mind and spirit get ready for the opportunities that are coming your way and know that without a doubt, the best is yet to come.

Learn To Dance In The Rain

Life is about the imperfections, it’s about the messy days and dealing with tough situations. It’s not always about being happy, it’s about overcoming obstacles. Some of the most beautiful people are the ones who have seen disappointment and faced struggle and never gave up. Our whole lives we are constantly dancing between the lines of positive and negative situations. It is inevitable that we will come across both. It isn’t hard to deal with happiness and good things; it’s how you bounce back once you have been knocked down. One of my favorite quotes is by Mike Tyson and it goes “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” That quote could not be truer. Be ready for anything and make sure to always deal with things as they come. The people with the most success in life weren’t always dealt the best cards; they just knew how to play the game.

Don’t Forget To Be Kind To Yourself

We are told our entire lives to treat others with respect. I can still picture my grade 4 teacher saying “treat others the way you want to be treated.” We go on to believe that as long as we are treating others with dignity and respect then we are doing the right thing. I then realized one of the most important things people forget is that you have to be kind to yourself. If you are not kind to yourself how is the world going to love you back? I hope that everyone starts to treat themselves with love and never forget that you are always deserving of it.

Be a Visionary in 2014

Do you ever wonder why you cannot stick to your New Year’s Resolutions? They tell us our whole lives that we must “make goals” for ourselves and see these goals through. Realistically, any human would find it hard to accomplish a list of 20 things that are different than what we have been doing an entire year before. In order to create change and see it through, we must envision ourselves in these new situations. What does your dream life taste like? What does your dream life smell like? What do you look like? How are the people around you affected? These are all things that are so important because you have to have a strong vision in order for yourself to ever become that “new person.” I am declaring that 2014 we all become “visionaries.” We are not going to set goals and not achieve them. We are taking it a step further by actually becoming that person. We will envision ourselves living to the highest of our potential. I wish you all luck, health and happiness in 2014 and that you have a strong vivid vision for the future.

Give More, Expect Less

Give More, Expect Less

I think since Christmas is right around the corner it is appropriate to talk about why giving more and expecting less is important. For starters, we all know that being materialistic and greedy only leads to unhappiness and the feeling of never having enough. If you try and collect items to make you happy you will never be completely satisfied. I have seen many people turn to money and it has led them down a path of sadness and unfulfillment. Once you start giving to others, you begin to feel more meaning in your life and it actually brings you more happiness inside then materialistic items would. Helping others is a great way to help yourself. You really don’t need a ton of things to be a happy person. Donate to charities, help the less fortunate and good karma will come your way. Here are some ways you can help this holiday season!

1) Donate to a charity of your choice. – The Canadian Cancer Society is one of my favorites.
2) Make care packages for the homeless. – They always need the necessities and it doesn’t cost very much.
3) Collect food and clothes for the food bank and various organizations. – Whether you are helping at a soup kitchen or at least donating a couple cans, you are helping those in need.
