Learn To Dance In The Rain

Learn To Dance In The Rain

Life is about the imperfections, it’s about the messy days and dealing with tough situations. It’s not always about being happy, it’s about overcoming obstacles. Some of the most beautiful people are the ones who have seen disappointment and faced struggle and never gave up. Our whole lives we are constantly dancing between the lines of positive and negative situations. It is inevitable that we will come across both. It isn’t hard to deal with happiness and good things; it’s how you bounce back once you have been knocked down. One of my favorite quotes is by Mike Tyson and it goes “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” That quote could not be truer. Be ready for anything and make sure to always deal with things as they come. The people with the most success in life weren’t always dealt the best cards; they just knew how to play the game.

Be a Visionary in 2014

Be a Visionary in 2014

Do you ever wonder why you cannot stick to your New Year’s Resolutions? They tell us our whole lives that we must “make goals” for ourselves and see these goals through. Realistically, any human would find it hard to accomplish a list of 20 things that are different than what we have been doing an entire year before. In order to create change and see it through, we must envision ourselves in these new situations. What does your dream life taste like? What does your dream life smell like? What do you look like? How are the people around you affected? These are all things that are so important because you have to have a strong vision in order for yourself to ever become that “new person.” I am declaring that 2014 we all become “visionaries.” We are not going to set goals and not achieve them. We are taking it a step further by actually becoming that person. We will envision ourselves living to the highest of our potential. I wish you all luck, health and happiness in 2014 and that you have a strong vivid vision for the future.

Give More, Expect Less

Give More, Expect Less

I think since Christmas is right around the corner it is appropriate to talk about why giving more and expecting less is important. For starters, we all know that being materialistic and greedy only leads to unhappiness and the feeling of never having enough. If you try and collect items to make you happy you will never be completely satisfied. I have seen many people turn to money and it has led them down a path of sadness and unfulfillment. Once you start giving to others, you begin to feel more meaning in your life and it actually brings you more happiness inside then materialistic items would. Helping others is a great way to help yourself. You really don’t need a ton of things to be a happy person. Donate to charities, help the less fortunate and good karma will come your way. Here are some ways you can help this holiday season!

1) Donate to a charity of your choice. – The Canadian Cancer Society is one of my favorites.
2) Make care packages for the homeless. – They always need the necessities and it doesn’t cost very much.
3) Collect food and clothes for the food bank and various organizations. – Whether you are helping at a soup kitchen or at least donating a couple cans, you are helping those in need.

Live It!

Live It!

The time is now. Stop what you are doing and look around you. This is your only life. This is not a game, you are the age you are and you are only going to get older. There is only now. What is it that you have always wanted to do? Where do you see yourself? It’s not too late to make a difference. Book that plane ticket and travel the world. Join that volunteer program you have always wanted to. Apply for that dream job, start doing the things you want to. I look around and see people doing the same things, day in and day out, and are missing out on all the dreams they had for themselves. Why not conquer those goals? You only have now since tomorrow isn’t promised, so live for today. Why live a mundane life when you can live an extraordinary life? As 2013 comes to a close and 2014 is the start of a new chapter, make a list of the things you want to get accomplished in the next year. It is not too late to change the world and it is never too late to show your loved ones how much you care.

Why Simplicity is the Key to Happiness

Why Simplicity is the Key to Happiness

Some people find peace within the chaos of life while some people find their happiness once it is calm and relaxed. For me I find both aspects of life important but to become calm for myself I must practice relaxation regularly. For people who suffer from anxiety and even those who just need to slow the pace of their life down take these tips and you will be on the right track to simplicity. Have you ever had too many options in front of you and not known what one to choose? This is because the mind actually doesn’t like to have too many options. It causes more stress and anxiety to have to figure out which option you would regret the least. If your choices were less it would make it simpler, which is why I believe that we must simplify our lives as much as possible. Less is more; you don’t need hundreds of materialistic items to bring you happiness. You can actually practice your own happiness. It comes from within, so simplify your life, find your calm and conquer each day. Here are a few things I do that bring me happiness and they are all quite simple:

1) Drink Tea
2) Yoga
3) Going For Walks
4) Read
5) Meditate
6) Bubble Baths
7) Massages

Start of a New Day

Start of a New Day

Why Mornings Are a Second Chance.

Mornings to me are like a renewal process. You get a second chance to do good. Whether your day before was successful or not, you get to wake up with a clear mind and begin again. There is a certain feeling you get when you wake up, get ready and take your first step outside. The feeling for me is exhilarating and it gives me that clean slate, ready to begin again feeling. Just like if you were about to start writing a new book, the first page is completely blank and your day is ready to start. Mornings can determine your destiny if you choose to take full advantage of them. Forget about yesterday, you have a new day to make it better than you ever have. Since life is so short, treat your mornings like the beginning of a new chapter and always strive to do better. Here is a list of 5 things you can do to start off your day:

1) Go for a run
2) Eat breakfast
3) Plan out your day
4) Get one minor task or errand done
5) Make a list of things you are grateful for

Why Meditate?

Why Meditate?

Why Meditate? Now I know you are already thinking this post is going to be about turning into Buddha and moving to Tibet to become a monk. Wrong. Meditation is something that can benefit everyone’s life and help de-stress you without spending any money. Does that not sound great? Becoming a calmer and more relaxed person without spending a cent! The benefits of meditation are endless and the longer you do it the better you get. You will have more energy, be at a zen state of mind and will learn to control your thoughts. Once you can control your thoughts better you will have more control over your own life. Steps to meditation:

1) Find an area, maybe in your room or somewhere quiet that you can sit on the ground, legs crossed and be comfortable. I like to sit on a pillow so it feels more comfortable.

2) Turn off the lights and connect your thumb and index finger together over top of your knees. You can also put your hands in prayer over your heart, whatever works best for you.

3) Shut your eyes and clear your mind of everything. Try your best not to think of anything or move during your meditation.

4) Start out by doing 10 minutes of meditation a day, once you get good up it to 20 minutes and then eventually to 30 minutes. I’m still at 10 minutes a day and it still seems like a long time. Enjoy your meditation since it is time all to yourself for a short period of time in a day.

Are You Spiritual?

Are You Spiritual?

Now when some people here the word “spirituality,” it makes them want to find the nearest garbage can and throw up in it. “I’m not spiritual, I don’t believe in religion.” These are often quotes you will hear from people that do not believe in a higher power, or those who just simply like to believe in nothing. I have never been a big believer in higher powers, and I was never really a spiritual person, but that all changed the moment I started doing yoga. It teaches you about life and how to become a more peaceful person, then once you start believing in yourself and the possibilities you have, you realize this force, this unforeseen power within you. That is what I like to call “spirituality.” You realize that your thoughts control your destiny and that when you are at peace with yourself the world works with you. There is this really great quote from “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho and it goes … “And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I truly believe that all people in some shape or form should listen to themselves, and get connected with their soul. Follow what you believe is right and listen to the spirit inside you that holds your destiny. Whether you practice yoga regularly or attend church every Sunday, find what speaks to you and listen. Peace, Love and Kindness

Peace, Love and Kindness

Peace, love and kindness, three simple words that mean so much. These words are the basis in which I live my life by. I recently made a commitment to myself that no matter what I do, I will abide by these three words. Life is too short not to treat people with peace, love and kindness. Everyone you meet has a story and is fighting a tough battle so the very least you can do is show some kindness. There is no need to hold anger in your heart; if you devote your life to being a kind person you will reap the benefits. Even during difficult times be light, be soft, and show love. The people around you will learn and grow from your peaceful nature and it will bring joy into their lives. I hope everyone can work on displaying peace, love and kindness to each person they meet.
